There are countless varieties of breakfast items in Wuhan but this has got to be one of my favourite discoveries. There is a tented area near my workplace with many breakfast booths, and I only found out about these pancakes a few months ago – “flavoured paste pancake” (having a hard time translating this one) and egg pancakes. The first time I had them, I fell in love, and it was one of those moments where you wondered how something so simple could taste so divine. I usually get a mix of the two types of pancakes, weighed for a total of 4 RMB (around 80 cents CAD), which is enough for a delightful breakfast. The flavoured paste is special in a way that I can’t describe, mainly because I don’t actually know what the paste consists of and how it’s made, but honestly it just tastes delicious. Meanwhile, the egg pancake is reminiscent of the one in Taiwan. I get these about once a week because the place is slightly out of the way, and I’d get sick of them quickly if I went for them every single day 😛
