“Lao ba cha” (or “old papa’s tea”) is Hainan’s version of dim sum. During our trip to Hainan last year, we had lao ba cha a few times and my husband ordered these three-coloured meatballs (from left to right: beef balls, squid balls, and fish balls). I’d usually only get the beef balls on their own when I go for dim sum, but we welcomed the variety and I enjoyed the different tastes that the combination offered.
